Lynyrd Skynyrd Original Booking Contact for Their Concert on April 24th 1975 at the San Diego Sports Arena
This Lynyrd Skynyrd, Paragon Agency Contract is the original 21 page concert contract. Some of these contracts were signed by Lead Singer/ Band Leader Ronnie Van Zant himself, however when he wasn’t available to do so, the contracts would often be signed by the bands manager, Peter Rudge like in the case of this specific contract. Rudge was the manager for multiple other bands at the time, most most famously for The Rolling Stones. He has also been the manager for the Who, Roger Waters, and Duran Duran, amongst many other artists thought his 55 year career as a manager. The contract covers everything to do with the show, including the food the band requests to be in their dressing rooms and a diagram of the stage set up.
The connection between Lynyrd Skynyrd and the Paragon Agency traces back to the 1970s golden era of Southern Rock. Rather than a modern insurance or local event venue, the Paragon Agency (founded by Alex Hodges and tied closely to Phil Walden's Capricorn Records axis in Macon, Georgia) was the premier talent booking powerhouse that shaped the live touring landscape of the decade.Paragon was responsible for orchestrating the band's rapid rise from sought-after club act to arena powerhouse:The Massive Breakthrough: In 1973, Alex Hodges of the Paragon Agency booked Lynyrd Skynyrd as the sole opening act on The Who's legendary Quadrophenia North American Tour.
