Mid-19th Century Rococo Revival Dresser and Mirror, Attributed to New Orleans Workshop
An elegant three-drawer dresser with serpentine front, richly carved drawer faces, and original white marble top with gray veining. The matching tall mirror features a deeply carved rosewood frame with scrollwork, floral motifs, and a central crest bearing a stylized bud or egg finial. The craftsmanship, proportions, and carving depth are consistent with high-style Rococo Revival furniture retailed by Prudent Mallard in New Orleans circa 1850–1865.
The dresser exhibits classic Mallard-shop traits: laminated rosewood veneer, French-influenced carving, and organic ornamentation. Mirror and marble appear original; veneer wear and base chipping consistent with age. A rare and visually striking example of Southern antebellum furniture design.
Estimated Value: $3,500 – $6,500
