Ralph Wilfred Borge (1922-2008)
A symbolic realist painter, Ralph Borge was for 40 years an influential teacher of artists in the San Francisco Bay Area. He is noted for the range of his work, and command of media, from elegant landscapes to melancholy figures and mysterious interiors.
Oakland-born Borge taught at Oakland\'s California College of Arts and Crafts, where he received his M.F.A. (now California College of the Arts) for 40 years. A 1956 Guggenheim fellowship recipient, he exhibited at the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the Crocker Museum, and the Museum of Modern Art, New York.
