Large decorative plaster/composition bust based on Emmanuel Villanis’ well-known Art Nouveau sculpture “Mille et Une Nuits” (A Thousand and One Nights), depicting Scheherazade.
Measures approximately 17” tall and weighs approximately 8.7 pounds.
The front of the base bears the raised title MILLE et UNE NUITS. The piece is also marked 1181.
Constructed of a non-metallic plaster/composition material with a multicolor painted finish designed to create an aged bronze/patinated appearance.
No Emmanuel Villanis signature has been located, so this piece is being offered as a decorative sculpture after Emmanuel Villanis, rather than as an original Villanis sculpture.
Condition shows considerable wear, including numerous chips and areas of paint/finish loss exposing the light-colored underlying material, particularly around the base, headdress, clothing and projecting edges. Additional scratches, scuffs and surface wear are present throughout.
