A charming and postally used divided back postcard depicting 22nd Avenue Boulevard in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, postmarked August 27, 1910. The hand-colored lithograph image shows a broad unpaved boulevard lined with mature trees, featuring a corner commercial building with a red roof and storefront awnings at left, a prominent Romanesque Revival church with a distinctive conical tower rising behind it, and well-kept residential structures visible at right behind an ornate iron fence. A tall gas street lamp stands at the center of the scene, evoking the gracious boulevard character of early 20th century Milwaukee. The card is a standard divided back format consistent with the 1907-1915 era. It bears a one-cent green U.S. postage stamp and a clear Milwaukee, WIS circular postmark dated Aug 27, 7-PM, 1910. The card was addressed to Mrs. Alvin Holmes, 51 Clinton Street, Fond du Lac, Wisconsin. The handwritten message from what appears to be 'mama' discusses family matters including someone named George who is unwell and not yet working, and mentions Pink being home again — a touching and personal slice of daily life from 1910. Condition is Good for a postally used example of this age. The front image carries several wavy black cancellation lines from the postmark machine, and there is light foxing and a faint diagonal crease visible. Corners show moderate wear consistent with handling and mailing. The back retains a clear postmark and fully legible handwritten message. Despite its use, the card displays well and captures an evocative streetscape of early Milwaukee. A desirable piece for collectors of Wisconsin topographical postcards, Milwaukee history, boulevard and urban street scene cards, or early 20th century social history ephemera. Cards documenting specific named Milwaukee streets and boulevards from this period are increasingly sought after as local history references.
