Collection History
Production Period: The "Le Ballon" pattern was produced by the historical luxury ceramic house Villeroy & Boch for a limited time in the mid-1980s, specifically between 1984 and 1988. It has since been discontinued, making individual pieces highly sought after by collectors.
The Artwork: The whimsical illustrations are based directly on the famous historical watercolor paintings of Jean-Adrien Mercier (1899–1995). Mercier was a prolific French illustrator celebrated for his fairytale art, children's books, and commercial travel posters.
The Concept: The larger items in this collection, like this sandwich tray, showcased panoramic, romantic landscapes reminiscent of early European hot-air balloon trials.
