Paul Bough Travis (1891-1975)
Mt. Kilimanjaro at Sunset (1930)
Up for sale is an original etching on cream wove paper with three deckle edges. The sheet measures approximately 7 7/8 by 10 7/8 inches; the plate, 5 1/2 by 7 inches. The print is signed and dated by the artist in pencil below the image at the lower right corner. Published for the tenth anniversary of the Cleveland Museum of Natural History, the etching is enclosed in the original envelope that accompanied it when given as a souvenir in celebration of the occasion.
Condition: The plate area is in excellent condition. The sheet has a couple of unobtrusive handling creases and a few very faint spots of foxing in the margins and a small impression the size of the head of a pin in the lower left corner margin; otherwise, very good. The envelope has some minor stains recto and inside the flap (none affect print), but otherwise is in very good condition.
In sum, a fine impression of a scene depicting a snowcapped Mt. Kilimanjaro as seen from a distance, etched in Travis\'s inimitable style.
