A rare French sketchbook containing original pencil, ink, and charcoal sketches from the period 1884–1900.
A beautiful sketchbook by an unknown but skillfull French artist. It contains sketches of landscapes in Northern France, as well as ships and ship details, and ink portraits of gentlemen. Made through a period from 1884 till 1900.
The landscapes are often set around Saint-Malo, including Paramé and Saint-Servan-sur-Mer in Ille-et-Vilaine, and Granville in Manche. All are skillfully executed in pencil, ink, or charcoal.
In total, there are 13 pages of landscapes, 13 portraits, 12 ships and boats, and 4 other sketches. There are also a few other minor sketches.
All were drawn between 1884 and 1900 by a skilled hand. It includes a poem dedicated to 'Justine', signed by the author/artist, Louis de Crèvecoeur.
