Handcrafted in Tunisia
Benera olive wood is produced by small family-owned workshops in Tunisia. The wood comes from olive trees that have reached the end of their fruit-bearing life and are being replaced by younger trees in active groves. That means the wood is a byproduct of the grove\'s natural cycle, not newly felled timber.
Every piece is finished with food-grade olive oil only. No chemical coatings, no synthetic treatments. Because every tree is different, the grain pattern, color, and shape of the piece you receive will be unique to it. No second piece is exactly like yours.
Why olive wood
Olive wood is one of the densest hardwoods used in kitchenware. Its closed grain structure means it does not absorb odors, flavors, or moisture the way softer woods do, so the same piece can go from garlic one day to fruit the next without carrying flavor between them. Independent studies also show no measurable bacterial growth on olive wood surfaces after 12 hours, even when scratched. The wood is safe for direct food contact, durable enough to last decades, and develops a deeper patina with use.
Care
Hand wash only with warm water and mild soap. Do not submerge in water, and never put olive wood in a dishwasher. Dry immediately with a cloth. Every few months, rub the surface with a small amount of food-grade olive oil or mineral oil to keep the wood hydrated and prevent drying. With this simple care routine, your piece will last for decades.
Shipping and packaging
Ships within 1 business day of cleared payment. Tracked delivery. Each piece is carefully packaged to protect it in transit. Please note that slight variations in grain, tone, and dimension between pieces are natural characteristics of genuine olive wood and are not defects.
