This is an authentic, vintage 1954 California License Plate Renewal Tab. These stamped steel tabs were issued by the California DMV during the early 1950s to 1960s to save on steel costs, allowing car owners to update their existing 1951 base license plates for the 1954 registration year. Die-cut, stamped steel. Red base with raised white numbers.
This is an original piece, not a modern reproduction. It displays the clean, heavy-gauge steel stamping and correct period font dies. The mounting tab extension on the right side is intact, and the bolt hole on the left is clean. It features an excellent aged patina, making it perfect to an automobilia display or a classic car collection.
