THE GOLD DETAIL
The signature gold sphere at the base of each stem is one of the defining characteristics of Gunnar Cyrén's Nobel design.
The gold is not simply a gold-colored glass effect. Orrefors identifies the decoration as real 21-karat gold, hand-painted onto the crystal.
IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT THE BOWL
Both glasses exhibit a distinctive flowing, circumferential line within the lower portion of the crystal bowl.
This feature is present on both glasses in essentially the same manner. It follows a continuous, irregular/wavy path around the bowl and can be felt along the interior surface.
It is clearly shown in the close-up photographs.
Because this feature is consistently present on both matching glasses and follows the construction of the bowl, I am not describing it as a random scratch or isolated damage. At the same time, I do not want to make an unsupported claim about its exact manufacturing origin. Buyers should review the photographs carefully and consider this feature part of the condition description.
The photographs are intended to provide complete transparency about this characteristic.
CONDITION
Excellent pre-owned condition. Please see complete photographs. Both glasses have the same distinctive flowing circumferential feature within the lower bowl, which can be felt on the interior and is shown in close-up photographs. No attempt has been made to conceal or minimize this feature.
The crystal is exceptionally clear and displays beautifully. The important gold elements remain highly attractive, and the glasses retain their original distinctive appearance.
Please examine all photographs carefully, including the detailed photographs of the bowl and gold work. The actual glasses pictured are the exact glasses being offered.
WHY THE NOBEL COLLECTION IS SPECIAL
The Nobel collection is one of Orrefors' best-known designer collections. Gunnar Cyrén created the collection in 1991, and Orrefors describes it as a collection that continues to be used at the annual Nobel Banquet in Stockholm City Hall. The collection includes specialized wine, beer, champagne and martini stemware along with other serving pieces.
Orrefors describes the collection as mouth-blown in Sweden and hand-painted with details in real 21-karat gold, and calls the Nobel collection a highly coveted collector's item internationally.
These glasses are therefore much more than ordinary entertaining stemware—they are a particularly recognizable example of modern Swedish design and Orrefors craftsmanship.
CARE
Orrefors recommends hand washing for this model.
