Companion clamshell trainer
Tiger Electronics Pokémon line · same 1998–99 wave
The unit on the left: red clamshell, oversized Poké Ball printed on the lid, small grayscale screen, white A/B buttons, and the protruding white D-pad.
This is the action half of the same merchandising wave — a capture / trainer LCD rather than a reference book. Same saturated red plastic, same Nintendo–Creatures–Game Freak copyright block on the sibling Pokédex lid, same “you are a trainer now” pitch. Together they were the two objects a kid could put on a desk and pretend were official Kanto hardware.

This was sold as “Ash’s Pokédex from the TV show.” It is not a game so much as a pocket encyclopedia: search by name or number, two-frame sprite animations, height, weight, a made-up 1–10 “strength” score, four moves, a special-attack animation, and a Red/Blue-style bio. Extra modes include favorites, a manual “caught” list, sort by type/size/weight, a password lock, clock, and a four-function calculator. Power is two CR2032 cells (main + backup). Data covers Gen I through #150; Mew is usually absent.
