Wonderful large primitive-style folk art wooden wall rack featuring a boldly shaped crest, two carved geometric rosette / daisy-wheel designs, and eleven individually formed iron hooks.The rack has a beautifully worn distressed red surface with areas of natural-looking color variation, rubbing, and surface wear that give it wonderful primitive character. The carved circular motifs and dramatic shaped top create a strong early American / country folk art appearance.Eleven iron hooks are mounted through the wooden board and clinched over on the reverse. The hooks have dark aged surfaces with areas of oxidation and greenish patina. Two additional holes in the face appear to have been used for wall mounting.This piece has the appearance of an early primitive rack; however, its exact age and origin are unknown and it may be a later reproduction inspired by antique examples. It is therefore being offered for its decorative and folk-art qualities rather than attributed to a specific period.Measures approximately 36” long x 8 3/4” high x 7/8” thick, not including the projection of the iron hooks.The rack remains in as-found condition and exhibits surface wear, scratches, paint loss, oxidation, variations in the wood and finish, and other imperfections that contribute to its rustic character.
