Additional Context: Sidney Lanier married Mary Day Anderson in 1867, and they had three sons. He traveled north to Boston, played with the Peabody Orchestra as its first flutist, and later composed music and poetry. He served as a professor of literature at Johns Hopkins University before passing away at age 39.
