An heirloom piece brought home from Germany by a WWII army veteran(Dad) in 1946.
-( This piece has not been professionally graded )-
It features the infamous, feared WWI German fighter pilot Baron Von Richthofen, the "Red Baron".
In excellent condition, this solid(20 grams) antique silver commemorative medal was minted in 1918 by the "Bayer Mint" in Germany.
" BAYER. HAUPTMUNZAMT - FEINSILBER "(engraved in edge of coin, see photos.)
This rare version; probably an early run or set-up piece, has the erroneous "89 Kills" number with arrow on the reverse side, making it already an extremely rare and hard to find collectible.
Upon further inspection you'll see another error present on this medal: The correct date "21 April" appears inverted to an erroneous"12 April 1918" date! (See photo)
2 RARE Variants on this attractive, solid silver piece.
