"Peter Rabbits Birthday" 1921
"Peter Rabbit and Little White Rabbit" 1923
"Peter Rabbit At The Farm" 1917
"Peter Rabbit Went to Sea" 1917
"Peter Rabbit and The Fairies" 1921When Frederick Warne & Co. published The Tale of Peter Rabbit in 1902, the firm failed to register the book's copyright in the US. The result, was a flood of unauthorised American editions – for which Beatrix and Warne received no money.
Although Beatrix was furious, the piracy also had an unintended consequence: these editions spread Peter Rabbit across America at extraordinary speed, creating a huge readership that grew up loving her work.
When it came to a longer, more personal book -The Fairy Caravan - it was published first – and for many years only – in the United States. She said, in effect, that American readers understood her better and had a long standing fondness for her American readers.
