This rare vintage 1984 Frito Lay / Tour of Texas “Race Leader” jersey represents one of the most distinctive and historically significant American cycling designs of the early 1980s. The bold Texas state flag motif, split into white, red, and blue panels with a single white star, makes it instantly recognizable as a proud symbol of the Lone Star State.

Commissioned by Frito-Lay and produced by Wm. Lewis Imports (Belgium) for the 1984 Frito Lay / Tour of Texas, this jersey was awarded to the overall race leader in what was then the opening stage race of the U.S. cycling season. Reported in Cycling U.S.A. (April 1984 issue), the event featured future legends such as Steve Bauer, Davis Phinney, Doug Shapiro, Ron Kiefel, and Alexi Grewal, with Bauer taking the overall general classification title.
