Up for sale is an exceptionally rare, vintage Italian 4-piece progressive nesting store counter display tin set. These brilliant metallic lithographed containers were used in mid-century Italian grocery stores to showcase bulk regional confections through clear front viewing windows.
This set represents a gorgeous geographical tour of historic Italian confectioners, featuring:
1. La Reale (Roma): The largest outer tin in deep crimson red.
2. Biscotti Brambilla Carlo: The second-largest tin featuring an Art Nouveau green border.
3. Canditi Marco Rossi (Venezia): The third nested tin in vibrant orange (Note: missing lid).
4. Mandorlato Botti Rico (Palermo): The smallest interior tin in bright yellow, complete with a beautifully illustrated traditional Sicilian horse-drawn cart on the lid.
Condition Report:
This set is in beautiful vintage condition with highly vibrant gold-toned lithography. All original front viewing glass windows are intact, clear, and free of cracks. There is some surface wear, some scratching, and oxidation consistent with age and authentic general store counter use, which adds incredible character.
CRITICAL NOTE ON COMPLETENESS: The third nested orange tin (Canditi Marco Rossi) is missing its top lid. All other tins include their matching lids. The tins still nest together beautifully and make for a spectacular tiered or nested shelf display.
