RUTH HUSSEY (1911-2005, born in Providence, Rhode Island) was nominated for Best Supporting Actress in 1940 for The Philadelphia Story. Although she appeared in a number of films, she found her greatest success on stage opposite Ralph Bellamy in the 1945 Broadway production of State of the Union. Hussey is the mother of Oscar-winning filmmaker John William Longenecker. CLAUDE JARMAN JR. (1934-2025), the son of a railroad accountant, was 12 years old when he was discovered in a nationwide M-G-M talent search for an upcoming film, The Yearling (1946). Jarman, who won the coveted role of Jody Baxter, was presented with a special miniature "Oscar" for his performance, and he was cast in several other films by M-G-M. By the 1950s, however, M-G-M was loaning him out to Republic Pictures, and Jarman would make his last film, The Great Locomotive Chase, in 1956. He later was the executive producer of a feature film, Fillmore (1972), and Jarman returned to acting once more to appear in the TV miniseries, Centennial (1978). He was also seen as a "past winner" on the 1998 and 2003 Academy Award telecasts. Jarman, a U.S. Navy veteran, once served as Director of Cultural Affairs for the city of San Francisco. VERA RALSTON (1919-2003), born Vera Hruba in Prague, Czechoslovakia, first gained attention as an ice-skater, prompting Herbert J. Yates, the head of Republic Pictures, to bring her to the U.S. to become "the next Sonja Henie". Credited as Vera Hruba in her 1941 film debut in Ice-Capades, the actress, who took the name "Ralston" from the name of a breakfast cereal company, would go on to appear in 26 films for Republic Pictures - and would marry Yates (they were married from March 1952 until his death on February 3, 1966). She retired from the screen in 1958 - the year that Yates was deposed as the head of the studio. GUY MADISON (1922-1996) is best remembered as Wild Bill Hickok, his starring role in the popular TV series (1951-1958). Originally billed as an all-around leading man in films like Till the End of Time (1946) and Honeymoon (1947), Madison appeared in some 85 films and various radio programs. "The Arizona Cowboy", singer and actor REX ALLEN (1920-1999), appeared on stage, rodeo and radio (National Barn Dance) before beginning his film career. In a span of five years (1949-1954) he made over 20 Westerns, many featuring sidekick Slim Pickens and Allen\'s horse Ko Ko (billed as "the Miracle Horse of the Movies"). Allen starred in TV\'s Frontier Doctor (1956), and was the narrator in many Disney films, including The Incredible Journey (1963) and Charlotte\'s Web (1973). NOEL NEILL (1920-2016) is an American actress with over 70 TV shows and movies to her credit. Neill made her film debut in 1940. As a child, she wanted to be a journalist like her father. Ironically, her most famous character was a newspaper employee: Lois Lane, Superman\'s love interest and a journalist at the Daily Planet. She was the first actress to portray Lois Lane, appearing as the character in the 1948 film Superman. Neill reprised the role in Atom Man vs. Superman (1950) and the television show Adventures of Superman (1953-1958). She has made appearances in several superhero productions, including cameos in Superman Returns (2006) and Superboy (1988-1992). Other credits include a series of 1940s Bobby-soxer films that starred Freddie Stewart. Fine condition.
