For sale is a rare, turn-of-the-century Defender Smoking Mixture antique tobacco tin. This highly sought-after piece features beautiful, distinct lithograph artwork on both sides:- Side 1: Features the iconic racing yacht Defender navigating open waters under full sail.- Side 2: Displays a detailed, pre-dreadnought style U.S. Navy battleship.
The sides of the tin feature a gorgeous blue and gold floral motif pattern, along with descriptive text reading: "A Combination of North Carolina and Virginia Tobacco making a Cavendish that will prove Cool, Fragrant and Delicious." The original paper tax stamp is partially intact across the lid and side, noting the manufacturer complied with laws in the 2nd District, New York.
Condition: This antique tin is sold empty for display and collection. It is in authentic vintage condition with a fantastic historic patina. There is surface wear, minor paint loss, light scuffing, and superficial oxidation/rusting primarily on the top lid, bottom face, and interior, which is completely expected and desired for a piece well over 100 years old. The hinge functions smoothly and holds securely. Please review all photos closely to judge the condition for yourself.
