Offered is a significant mid-19th century Ottoman Yataghan featuring a rare and documented maker's mark. Unlike standard unmarked pieces, this sword bears the Y.F SHYTH stamp beneath the crescent and three stars on the gilt brass bolster. The Y.F SHYTH workshop is known for making the highest quality arms catering to the Ottomans elite and the prestigious European export market of the times. The hilt has original dark horn scales featuring the bullseye brass rosettes. The tang band is hand engraved indicative of superior craftsmanship's blade shows original signs of use and pitting but remains structurally sound and tight. THe crescent with the three stars is a specific heraldic choice. In the 19thC this was associated with the rare Khedivate of Egypt specialized Ottoman Imperial unit! A fine rare piece of history which would make a fabulous addition to any collection as seen.
