Rare Vintage 1950s Blue Marbled Plastic Swan Baby Potty Training Chair Toilet For Sale

Unusual vintage child’s potty/training seat formed as a swan, made in a beautiful pale blue marbled/swirl plastic. The molded plastic has a subtle white swirling pattern throughout, giving the piece a particularly distinctive appearance.

I purchased this directly from the original owner, who told me it was his as a child in the 1950s. I believe the manufacturer is Plastic Molded Arts Corp. There is a small molded maker’s mark on the plastic, which is shown in the photographs and appears to read PMA.

The chair retains its original cream-colored safety restraint/seatbelt and metal hardware. The swan has an orange bill with purple detailing and small inset eyes. Its sculptural curved neck forms the front of the chair, with a high wraparound back and central opening.

Condition: Vintage, pre-owned condition with age and use wear. The original metal buckle and other metal hardware have oxidation and surface rust. I have intentionally left the hardware as found and have not attempted to clean, polish or use steel wool or other abrasives on it. The cream-colored restraint straps have age-related discoloration.

The blue plastic has scattered surface wear, scratches, scuffs and areas of discoloration/tonal variation consistent with age. There is also a more defined, approximately circular area of discoloration, shown in the photographs.

There are two cracks in the plastic where the swan/splash-guard section joins the seat, one on each side. Both cracks are specifically shown in the close-up photographs. Please examine these areas carefully.

Because of the cracks and the age of the plastic, this is being offered as a vintage collectible/display piece rather than for use by a child.

No aggressive cleaning, polishing or restoration has been attempted. It is being offered in the condition in which I acquired it.

A wonderfully sculptural piece of mid-century nursery history with an especially attractive pale blue marbled finish.
