📝 ITEM DESCRIPTION (COPY & PASTE BELOW)
Title: Where the Wild Things Are (25th Anniversary Edition)
Author/Illustrator: Maurice Sendak
Publisher: HarperCollins Publishers
Edition: First Printing / First Edition of the 25th Anniversary Layout
Format: Hardcover with Original Dust Jacket
Special Premium Feature: RARE, FULL HANDWRITTEN INSCRIPTION & SIGNATURE BY MAURICE SENDAK
A True Piece of Children\'s Literary History for Serious Collectors
Up for sale is an incredibly rare artifact for any Maurice Sendak enthusiast. While standard signed copies on the market feature a quick, basic \"flat signature\" (just the author\'s name), this spectacular copy showcases a full, personalized handwritten inscription directly from Sendak that brims with character, flow, and historical context.
The Complete Handwritten Text Reads:
\"For Maria — Thank you! Maurice Sendak, Aug. \'90\"
Why This Specific Inscription Stands Out:
• A Rare Display of Personality: Sendak was famously selective with his extra words. The inclusion of a warm, personal \"Thank you!\" alongside his bold, highly stylized exclamation point makes this a beautifully expressive piece compared to stock signatures.
• Immediate 1990 Anniversary Context: Hand-dated to August 1990, this book was signed directly at the launch of the 25th-anniversary promotional circuit. Because it was signed in 1990, it firmly places the book as part of the initial first printing batches of this specific anniversary layout. The extensive extra handwriting offers flawless ink texture, flourish, and linguistic flow—giving collectors absolute peace of mind regarding its absolute, lifetime authenticity.
Condition Profile
• The Inscription & Interior: Pristine and exceptional. The critical title page holding the inscription is remarkably clean, bright, and beautifully preserved. The inner illustrations remain highly vibrant, and the binding is completely tight and structurally sound.
• The Original Dust Jacket: Present and safely intact. The paper jacket displays genuine vintage wear, including water marking and edge peeling along the top and bottom white margins. It has done its job perfectly, ensuring that the rigid hardcover book boards underneath remain highly protected and clean.
Collector-Grade Shipping & Logistics
