This set of 2 vintage French embroidered linen rectangular napkin pouches is a charming addition to any table setting. Made from high-quality pure linen, these napkins feature intricate symmetrical scrollwork embroidery in the Breton style. Colors include natural moss green, rust and earthy brown tones on either a cream or brown background. In traditional European households, especially in France, these envelopes were used to individually store cloth napkins between meals. Because napkins were not washed after every meal , family members would have their own designated pouch to keep their napkin clean and separate.I purchased these in 1974 in France but never used them. One still has the Toile de Lin Pur sticker on it. Pure Linen Fabric.
