The Karelian Front was a combined arms operational-strategic formation (association, front) of the Red Army of the Armed Forces of the USSR during the Great Patriotic War. It existed from August 1941 to November 1944.The Karelian Front had the longest length of all Soviet fronts of the Great Patriotic War – up to 1,600 km in 1943.The only one of all the fronts had particularly difficult northern natural and climatic features.Only on the Karelian Front were such types of transport as reindeer and dog sleds used to transport goods.The only front on one section of which (in the Murmansk region) German troops were unable to violate the state border of the USSR.The title of Hero of the Soviet Union was awarded to 140 soldiers for their military exploits on the Karelian Front.
