PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

An incredible glass lantern slide collection of 19 vintage totem poles from Alaska and British Columbia, Canada, carefully formed by a collector over many years. Most are 3-1/2 x 4” in size. Some of these are very rare, and are fortunate that they survived. Many of these were manufactured by the Keystone View Company, several from Eye Gate House, Inc., and several others from the Victor Animatograph Co. Here is a listing of the 19 glass slides:

The following THREE glass lantern slides were produced using the “Victor Featherweight” method -- a one-piece glass pane positive with a durable emulsion, with a shellac applied on the opposite side to protect the image and prevent scratching, and then framed in a cardboard matting. The slide could be played in different Stereopticons. Prior to the Featherweight slides, the Victor Corporation produced glass slides that were heavy, bulky, and expensive. The Featherweight slides were less expensive and produced a high quality image and were very durable.

The company was established in Davenport, Iowa, in 1910. Victor slide images were shown on the Viopticon, the first truly portable stereopticon. The Vioptican projected images using a brilliant carbon arc lamp. The inventor of the Viopticon, was Alexander F. Victor.
