The era of transition from vinyl to CD.
This work, the only one among Nikolayeva\'s Victor recordings never released on vinyl, was also recorded with the Japanese staff whom Ms. Nikolayeva trusted implicitly, at the Imaichi Civic Hall (now the Imaichi Cultural Center, Nikko City) near her regular lodging.
It presents these pieces, often used as piano teaching materials, as artistic works worthy of listening to.
No one else could deliver such a high-quality performance of these pieces, which are relatively simple and easy to play.

After winning the Leipzig Johann Sebastian Bach International Competition in 1950, commemorating the 200th anniversary of Bach\'s death, Nikolayeva gained worldwide recognition as a leading authority on Bach\'s music.
Shostakovich, who served as a judge at the aforementioned competition, was profoundly moved by Nikolayeva\'s performance. He composed his “24 Preludes and Fugues” in 1951 (premiered in 1952), a work considered representative of 20th-century Soviet piano music, and dedicated it to Nikolayeva.
Nikolaeva left numerous recordings for the Melodiya label and visited Japan frequently, recording Bach works for Victor.
Recordings that began in 1977, initially as a joint production with Melodiya and later as Victor master recordings, resulted in five albums (counting the Well-Tempered Clavier as one album) released between 1982 and 1991.
Following the first recordings in 1977, sessions were held at the Imaichi Cultural Center in present-day Nikko City, located near a place Nikolayeva herself favored staying at the time.
Later, in 1993, Victor recorded Nikolayeva live as the soloist performing Tchaikovsky\'s Piano Concerto No. 1 during the “Tchaikovsky Last Concert” in Osaka, conducted by Fedoseyev (released in 2022 as part of this project\'s SACD hybrid disc, catalog NCS88013).
As Nikolayeva passed away the following year, this recording became her final one with Victor.
This reissue was planned as part of last year\'s 2024 centennial commemorative project for Nikolayeva\'s birth.
Her recordings for Victor were analog only for the 1977 “Inventions and Sinfonias”; all subsequent recordings were digital.
We are releasing all of Nikolayeva\'s Bach recordings for Victor across five titles.
For the reissues, the analog recordings were sourced from Victor\'s original analog master tapes, while the digital recordings were remastered from the original masters.
We pursued the original sound, aiming for the highest possible sound quality achievable today.
The process for creating the SACD versions is the same as for previous projects.
