Dated 1845 on the title page, this copy is particularly appealing for its early American publication and historical subject matter. It survives in an attractive 19th-century half-leather binding with marbled paper-covered boards, giving the book strong period character.
An additional feature is the book\'s George S. Denison provenance. The front matter bears a printed ownership label reading “George S. Denison, No. 23 J.D.”, together with a handwritten “George S. Denison” inscription. I would describe this as historical ownership provenance without making claims about the identity of this particular George S. Denison unless further documentation can establish it.
Condition: The binding shows substantial but attractive age-related wear, including rubbing and scuffing to the leather, spine, boards, edges, and corners. The spine lettering is quite faded. The marbled boards remain visually appealing, with wear and surface marks consistent with age. Interior pages show foxing, toning, spotting, staining, and previous-owner markings, as visible in the photographs. The book nevertheless retains a strong, authentic mid-19th-century appearance.
