This copy has been identified as part of the Houghton Mifflin Second Edition, 15th–17th printing group from 1963. These printings weren\'t individually numbered, so it\'s not possible to say whether this is specifically the 15th, 16th, or 17th printing (some sources say there were only 4,000 copies between the 3 printings).
The real star here is the classic Tolkien-designed dust jacket, complete with the mountain and forest artwork and runic border. For a jacket that\'s more than 60 years old, it still makes a fantastic display piece. It does have plenty of character from its journey, including edge wear, tears, creasing, staining, chipping, and some areas of loss.
This is a former library copy and has library stamps/markings along with other signs of age and use. While it\'s not a pristine copy, it\'s a really neat piece of Tolkien publishing history with a jacket that has thankfully survived along with it.
