Hardcover. 4to. Published by Peter Jackson, Late Fisher, Son, and Co., London, UK. No Date (1849). 72 pgs. Illustrated with a frontispiece and 61 plates. Bound in blue cloth boards with titles present to the spine and front board. Boards have shelf-wear present to the extremities (boards lightly scuffed and worn). Previous owner\'s name present to the FFEP. Text is clean and free of marks. Binding tight and solid. Thomas Rose states that \'The scenery of this district is one of the most picturesque character, and to those who love to see nature in her wildest and grandest forms, few tours will afford so much gratification as a visit to what may be correctly termed \'The British Switzerland\'. Each plate has a detailed description by Thomas Rose who discusses the history, flora, fauna and architecture of each area. Thomas Allom (13 March 1804 – 21 October 1872) was an English architect, artist, and topographical illustrator. He was a founding member of what became the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA). He designed many buildings in London, including the Church of St Peter\'s and parts of the elegant Ladbroke Estate in Notting Hill. He also worked with Sir Charles Barry on numerous projects, most notably the Houses of Parliament, and is also known for his numerous topographical works, such as Constantinople and the Scenery of the Seven Churches of Asia Minor, published in 1838, and China Illustrated, published in 1845.
