The Tour of Doctor Syntax In Search of the Picturesque by William Combe, with illustrations by T. Rowlandson. Published by R. Ackermann, London, 1813. The first volume of the trilogy.
Beautiful, hand-colored illustrated plates throughout retain their bright, pop-y color. Hand-colored vignette on title page.
Rebound in leather and marbled boards.
The whimsical illustrations throughout are in great condition, though the surrounding margins have some degree of foxing. The text-only, text-facing pages are almost uniformly clean, but the plate-facing text pages frequently have some discoloration. Examples of flaws visible in photos. The last text page is torn and repaired with tape.
All illustrations present.
Overall, in very good condition. The binding is very solid, functionally and aesthetically. Leather retains its gloss, and has very limited wear.
A highly usable and attractive copy.
