• Up for your collection is a green beret worn by US Army 5th SFG B-51 BAC SI team, in good condition.
• This wool beret fits US head size 7, leather headband with adjustable drawstring.
• The B-51 BAC SI (Medical Doctor) beret flash measures 1.8\" by 1.5\".

• Activated in 1961

• Headquartered at Nha Trang, then Bien Hoa, and other outposts

• Tasked with unconventional warfare, counterinsurgency, and foreign internal defense (FID) missions throughout South Vietnam, Cambodia, and Laos

The 5th SFG was the tip of the spear for MACV-SOG, CIDG (Civilian Irregular Defense Group), and other deep operations. They trained and fought alongside Montagnards, ARVN Rangers, Cambodian forces, and Laotian irregulars.

• An Operational Detachment Bravo (SFOD-B) is a company-level command and support element.

• Each B-team supports multiple A-teams (SFOD-As) in a region.

• B-51 would have provided:

  • Operational planning

  • Logistics & comms

  • Medical and intel support

  • Liaison with higher HQ (MACV, SOG, CORDS, etc.)

B-51 specifically may have operated out of:
