This is my version of the Spiller knife, a boot dagger carried by Rocky Mountain trappers and Mountain Men in the early 1800s. The Spiller pattern uses a classic trailing-point profile descended from frontier skinning knives. The long sweeping belly gives exceptional slicing performance, while the high tip offers clean control without snagging. It?s a fast, efficient camp and field knife with a historical silhouette and modern steel performance.
These knives are made for hard use. I make the blades the handles and the sheaths myself. They are not stainless. They are carbon steel and thus, will stain and need to be oiled and maintained. However, they will hold an edge better than most types of stainless steel. I make the blades one or two at a time, hand-grind and carefully temper them. This knife, like all my knives, comes with a cowhide sheath that is stitched by hand with a true saddle stitch. These are old-school, tough-as-nails knives. No frills, no nonsense.
