According to the legend, an orphaned boy named Long Arrow went on a quest to a distant lake to help his adoptive father, Good Running. At the bottom of the lake, he met spirit people who gifted him a magical animal that was as swift as an elk but could carry burdens like a dog.Along with the first herd of horses, the spirits gave him a rainbow-colored quilled belt to guide them, which is represented by the colorful wrap sculpted around the center of the horse.
