The Illinois Military Tract comprised land between the Illinois and Mississippi River, provided land for military veterans as bounty for their service. An original Land Certificate for the sale 160 acres of Military Tract land, signed at historic Vandalia, then the State Capitol, January 17, 1833, sold to Roswell H Grant. The 1p 8 x 6" ptd/ink Certificate is signed by Auditor James Stapp at Vandalia. Minor edge wear, age stains, reverse w acid free archival repairs on folds, Overall VG.James Stapp was a noted pioneer who served in the Black Hawk War as Aide to Governor Reynolds.
