Beautiful vintage Dobbs Homburg dating to December 14th, 1965 based on the original interior notation. Dobbs was a prominent American Dress-hat maker known for PREMIUM fedoras and Homburgs during the mid-20th century.
Example has a very dark midnight Blue that can appear nearly black depending on the lighting. Interior markings include size 7 5/8 Conform, 2 3/8 Homburg. and additional period factory/style information. The 2 3/8 notation corresponds to the brim width.
The hat is also marked by C. Peroni and Handcrafted by Peerless with an Oak Park Il identification. It retains its original ribbon, liner, leather sweatband, and the original wind trolley/button cord, a great period detail that is often missing from vintage hats.
The name E.F. Bachner has an interesting Chicago area historical connection. Records from the tooling & manufacturing Association identify E.F. Bachner of Plymouth Manufacturing Co. as one of the 8 men involved in founding the Chicago-area tooling association in 1925. The hats connection to that individual has not been independently proven, so this is presented only as an interesting provenance connection for further research.
