VTG Rustic Chinese Oxblood Sang de Boeuf Glazed Stoneware Planter Drip 9.75"
A late twentieth-century Chinese stoneware planter or cachepot, circa 1970s–1990s, of substantial thick-walled construction and finished in a deep oxblood or sang-de-boeuf type glaze. The vessel is formed with a rounded ovoid body tapering gently toward the foot and rising to a thick rolled and slightly flared rim.
The glaze presents a complex mottled surface rather than a uniform red field, with passages of deep burgundy, crimson and plum interspersed with darker brown-toned firing variation. These tonal changes occur irregularly across the body and rim, producing the variegated appearance associated with modern Chinese oxblood-glazed decorative ceramics.
The form is notably robust for its scale. At approximately 9.75 inches high and 7.3 lb, the vessel has substantial wall thickness and physical mass consistent with heavy stoneware or ceramic construction rather than thin porcelain. The broad mouth and rounded profile identify the form as a planter or cachepot.
