Vintage 1930s Tom Cat Lemon Crate Label Orosi Foothill Citrus Association Litho.
Tom Cat 12.25" by 8.75" Schmidt Litho print. The art deco illustration was typical of Schmidt's labels and of the times. The Orosi FootbillCitrus Association was a packing cooperative located in Tulare County. The Lindsay-Merryman Citrus Exchange was a marketing cooperative, also out of Tulare County. The black tuxedo cat on the Tom Cat labels became one of the most famous and noticeable crate labels. In a time where vibrant, memorable lithographs were the norm, the Tom Cat label reigned supreme. He is usually poised majestically in front of a contrasting orange or yellow background; the fruit grew secondary to the artwork, and was a small part of the illustration, if it was there at all.
In like new condition. It has some light surface creases that you only notice in the right light; there are no other signs of wear or aging.
