Vintage 1937 Elgin Grade 526 10K RGP Diamond Dial Watch for Restoration or Parts For Sale

Offered for sale is a vintage 1937 Elgin Grade 526 10K RGP Diamond Dial Manual Wind Watch for Restoration or Parts. This is one of a number of vintage watches that were part of a retired watch technicians inventory of watches and watch parts, acquired a number of years ago, that I have begun listing here on .
Mechanically, this watch is in running condition - the 7J Grade 526 movement started running within 5 - 6 winds of the crown, and once running, ran steadily. The crown correctly sets the hands. That said, while the watch runs steadily once wound, time keeping has not been measured; however, as with all vintage watches with an indeterminate service history (and this one is nearly 90 years old now), it should be assumed that a servicing will need to be administered in order for the watch to keep time correctly. The serial number on the movement identified the production date for this watch as 1937.
Cosmetically, the 29mm 10k RGP case with its fluted bezel is in nice overall condition, showing signs of normal wear in the form of small scratches, but otherwise retaining sharp lines, corners and edges throughout; additionally, there is only very light brassing of the gold plating, and only on the rear surfaces and very tips of the lugs. The stainless steel case back is in similarly nice condition, retaining most of its original factory graining (please review the photos, as they form the best description of the physical condition of this watch.) The original black dial with diamond hour markers shows wear in the form light soiling, patina and wear, particularly to the Elgin logo on the dial, while the original hands are clean and have retained their original luminous fill (it no longer glows, of course.) The crown is clean, but has lost its plating on the domed surface, while the crystal generally quite clear but does show some light scratches, particularly around the perimeter.
The watch is mounted on a nice clean combination black lizard & black calfskin watch band that matches the watch well, and will fit a wrist of up to approximately 7 1/2\" in size in this configuration.
Lots of good here for the Elgin collector, either as a restoration project itself or as a parts donor in the restoration of another watch. With a refinishing of the dial (if you\'re into that kind of watch restoration) and a servicing of the movement, this would be a lovely addition to any Elgin watch collection.
