Vintage 1960s Silvertone 1484 Twin Twelve Tube Amplifier Head - Functional
Up for sale is a vintage 1960s Sears Silvertone 1484 \"Twin Twelve\" tube guitar amplifier head.
It is functional, powers up successfully, and outputs audio. I tested it on my workbench using a bass guitar and a 4-ohm speaker load. But I\'m not a guitarist and that was the extent of my testing after updating by removing the \"death cap\".
The amp features its original 1960s factory tube set, including a matching pair of premium RCA 6L6GC power tubes and the original Silvertone-branded preamp/driver tubes.
- The Tremolo and Reverb circuits are responsive. Adjusting the front-panel speed, strength, and depth knobs directly modulates the audio output I believe as intended.
Important safety upgrades have been completed:- The original dangerous 2-prong power cord has been upgraded to a modern, grounded 3-prong plug.- The aluminum chassis frame is securely grounded, and the original \"death cap\" has been removed from the circuit.- The main fuse holder and the front-panel On/Off toggle switch are correctly isolated on the hot leg of the power loop.
Output Modification:The original hardwired black speaker cord was previously cut short by a past owner. I have terminated the transformer leads into a standard 1/4\" female speaker output jack mounted directly to the rear panel, allowing you to plug it straight into any standard 4-ohm speaker cabinet with a regular guitar speaker cable.
Condition Details:Please look closely at the pictures. This amplifier head reportedly sat in storage inside a shed for most of its life, which explains its current cosmetic state. The aluminum chassis shows normal vintage pitting, surface oxidation spots, and cosmetic wear appropriate for a farm-fresh find of this age.
