Up for sale is a rare, highly unique original mid-century oil painting on canvas board bearing the signature of renowned maritime artist Alfred Tutt Madsen (1901–c.1980s). While Madsen is primarily famous for his traditional South American seascapes, this piece captures an iconic North American cityscape, making it an exceptionally scarce, non-maritime subject find for collectors. This artwork is freshly sourced from a private estate collection and is being offered completely as-is, without formal third-party certification or authentication paperwork.• The Stylistic Turn: This 1975 piece represents a complete stylistic evolution from his early illustrations. Executed during the final decade of his life, it beautifully captures a mature artist embracing mid-century Modernism. Madsen utilizes heavy, hand-applied palette knife textures (impasto) to scratch out the vertical lines of the New York skyline against a moody, golden sunset sky.
• Signature & Date: Signed \"ALF MADSEN -75\" clearly along the lower center border, dating the piece precisely to 1975.
• Medium & Dimensions: Oil on canvas board. The canvas panel measures 12\" x 16\". The total frame size is approximately 17\" x 21\" x 1.5\".
• Support & Studio Marks: The back features its original vintage \"Deltex Canvas Panel\" manufacturer label (Delta Brush Mfg. Corp., New York, mounted with Fredrix Artists\' Canvas) alongside minor stray studio paint smudges on the reverse border from the artist\'s original workspace.• Condition: Excellent vintage condition with deep, heavily textured paint application and no visible fading. Housed securely in its original, wide-profile 1970s wooden estate frame with a gold-gilt inner accent border (no glass).A standout piece for collectors of New York City art, mid-century modern design, or rare artist subject variations. Please review all high-resolution photos closely, as they serve as the primary visual description for this original work.
