RARE VINTAGE POP ART 1979 JAM, INC. DELI COASTERS — HERO SANDWICH DESIGN BY JO ANNE MARQUARDTOffered is a wonderfully unusual vintage JAM, Inc. Deli Coasters ceramic art set designed by Jo Anne Marquardt, dating to 1979.This is the Hero Sandwich design — a fun, dimensional ceramic sandwich made from individual food components that function as coasters. The pieces are colorful, glossy and wonderfully kitschy, making this as much a piece of 1970s food-themed ceramic art as it is a functional coaster set.The original box is included and is marked:“DELI COASTERS”
“FUN & FUNCTIONAL CERAMIC ART CREATED BY JO ANNE MARQUARDT”
“JAM, INC.”
“© 1979 JAM, INC., SACRAMENTO, CA 95822”
“PATENT PENDING”The box also identifies the various JAM Deli designs, including Hero Sandwich, Jam Burger, Sandwich, Lox & Bagel, and Jam Cookies.CONDITIONThe ceramic pieces are in very good vintage pre-owned condition overall, with the expected minor surface imperfections associated with age and handmade/ceramic production. Please examine all photographs carefully. The bottoms show some age-related surface wear, small manufacturing irregularities, and wear to the original protective feet. There are also minor imperfections visible in the glaze/surfaces. I do not see any major chips or cracks in the pieces. The original box is included but has significant age/storage wear, including creasing, bent/opened flaps, worn edges and substantial tape/adhesive residue and surface damage on one side. The box is being included because it is an important part of the item’s provenance and collector appeal. The white round plate shown in some photographs is NOT original to the set. It will be included as it adds to the overall display aesthetic. I have not represented the plate as original to the set because I have not been able to establish whether the original Hero Sandwich set was sold with a plate, but if it was this is definitely not it.Please review all photos as they are part of the description. This is an especially unusual opportunity for collectors of Jo Anne Marquardt ceramics, JAM, Inc. novelty ceramics, 1970s kitsch, food-themed pop art, and vintage advertising/restaurant-inspired collectibles.
