Coleco saw that obsession and absolutely ran with it. Their early-1980s tabletop arcade games — Pac-Man, Donkey Kong, Galaxian, Frogger and others — became some of the coolest electronic toys of the era. They looked like miniature arcade cabinets sitting right on your bedroom table and today they have become enormously collectible pieces of early electronic-gaming history. You can still occasionally find a decent loose example. Complete boxed examples are much harder. But finding one preserved like THIS is an entirely different category.
LOOK AT THESE PHOTOS. THIS IS A MUSEUM-LEVEL SURVIVOR. This 1981 Coleco Official Pac-Man tabletop, Model 2390, is still in extraordinary new-in-the-box condition and has been tested — IT PLAYS PERFECTLY. The game itself is absolutely gorgeous, with only a little spotting on sides of decal from decades of storage. The battery compartment is beautifully clean. But the real treasure here is everything surrounding the game: the incredibly crisp original box, the original molded Styrofoam packing, and the original instruction booklet and Coleco paperwork. There is even an old Target $54.99 price sticker still on the box — a perfect little time capsule from when this was sitting on a store shelf more than four decades ago.
I have handled and collected vintage electronic games for years, and I HAVE NEVER SEEN A PAC-MAN BOX THIS NEW. There is a tiny area of storage wear along one lower box edge as clearly photographed, but otherwise the color, gloss, artwork and overall preservation are beyond remarkable. You might find another Pac-Man tabletop. You might even eventually find one with its box. But finding the game, box, packing and paperwork together in this condition is almost unreal. This is the example you put at the center of a serious Coleco, Pac-Man or early electronic-game collection. It will arrive protected inside the plastic museumdisplay box protector shown.
