This is a stunning opalescent centerpiece, decorated with roses and made by Capodimente in Italy. It is made of white earthenware with an opalescent glaze, the kind that shimmers and you can slightly see the colors of the rainbow at certain angles. The pink rose and rosebuds are handpainted and edged in shiny gold, so they shimmer even more! The green and yellow leaves are accented in shiny gold also. And then the piece itself has an intricate scroll and fluted impressed design, all resting on 4 feet. The inside is glazed as well, but just a regular shiny glaze, not opalescent. What a stunning centerpiece this would make, or displaying in a cabinet, or side table.
The centerpiece is about 10 inches long, 6 inches wide at the widest, 6 inches tall and weighs 1 pound 14 ounces.
It is in excellent shape, but there are a couple of flaws I noticed. There is a hairline on the edge, that goes inside the piece. The leaf by it may be chipped also, it is rough in a couple of places, but the edges of the decoration are rough in general so it is hard to tell. See picture #12. I took close up pictures of the sculpted roses and leaves from other angles too, so see those. Picture # 11 is taken from the underside. I can also see lines of crazing when I look with a bright flashlight, like on the top edge of the piece and other places on the piece. If you notice it looks pinkish in some of the pictures, that is the opalescent glaze that is so reflective, it is reflecting the hot pink color of my iPad that I use to take pictures!
