Vintage Chinese Carved Soapstone Double Vase Birds Flowers Openwork 9.25\" For Sale

Beautiful and highly detailed vintage Chinese hand-carved soapstone double vase, featuring an elaborate three-dimensional design of birds, flowering branches, blossoms, fruit, leaves and pierced openwork foliage.

The carving is particularly impressive, with numerous delicate branches and leaves deeply undercut from the stone. A finely detailed bird is incorporated into the foliage, and the numerous fruits, buds and blossoms create wonderful depth throughout the composition.

Both vase forms are hollow and decorated with delicate incised floral designs, including striking dark contrasting flowers. The natural soapstone has beautiful variations of cream, pale yellow, salmon pink, rose, russet and brown, which the carver incorporated into the design.

A substantial decorative piece with excellent presence and considerably more detail than many smaller Chinese soapstone carvings.
