Up for sale is a beautiful vintage Chinese hand-carved wood brush pot (Bitong) / naturalistic decorative vase. This piece is skillfully carved from a single piece of timber to replicate an organic, gnarled tree stump or pine trunk. It features intricate openwork and high-relief carvings of two powerful eagles/hawks perched amidst stylized branches and blossoms—traditional Asian symbols of resilience and strength.
The piece boasts an incredibly dramatic wavy rim and a highly figured ribbon woodgrain appearance achieved through a multi-step tinted lacquer finish over a lightweight regional softwood.

CONDITION:
Good pre-owned vintage condition. Structurally completely solid with no deep wood cracks or splits. Please note there is minor, minute flaking/rubbing to the glossy tinted topcoat lacquer along some of the high-contact folds of the upper wavy rim and one lower node, exposing the lighter raw timber underneath (see close-up photos). The underside is flat saw-cut and retains a partial vintage paper label adhesive patch.
