A beautiful little piece of art history.
This vintage sculpture is inspired by the ancient Greek tradition of Hermes Kriophoros — Hermes carrying a ram, a symbol associated with protection, shepherds, and the care of living things.
I found it at an old Hollywood estate sale and was immediately drawn to the details: the beautifully sculpted beard, the little ram resting against his shoulder, the pointed hat, and the rich, dark patina.
The figure is heavy, with a bronze-like finish, and sits on a lovely cream-colored stone base. It\'s marked \"MFA\" on the back, although I haven\'t been able to confirm the maker.
There\'s something wonderfully timeless about it. It would look beautiful on a bookshelf, desk, or side table, especially in a home filled with books, art, and collected treasures.
Also a thoughtful gift for someone who loves Greek mythology, ancient history, or unusual vintage objects.
In lovely vintage condition, with natural surface character and some wear to the stone base.
Measurements: 12 inches tall; base is 4.5 inches long x 3.5 inches wide (measured at base).
