Up for sale is an authentic, early vintage double-sided metal street sign blade reading HURON.
Measuring approximately 24 inches long by 6 inches tall, this is a genuine mid-century heavy-gauge flat metal municipal blade featuring bold black block lettering set against an aged white/cream background with heavy, genuine craquelure and weathered character.
THE HISTORIC & REGIONAL SIGNIFICANCE:
"HURON" is one of the most storied and recognizable names in North American history:
Native American Heritage: Named in tribute to the historic Huron (Wyandot) people and Great Lakes indigenous nations.
Lake Huron & Great Lakes Maritime Lore: A natural centerpiece for lake houses, coastal cottages, boathouses, and Great Lakes maritime collections.
Historic Town Provenance: Originating from an older historic area where the Huron name was celebrated and honored on municipal thoroughfares.
Because towns and municipalities across the Great Lakes, Midwest, and East Coast modernized and replaced their early mid-century street signs decades ago, authentic surviving metal blades with this level of genuine age and historical character are exceptionally difficult to find.
Whether you are a collector of Native American historical artifacts, Great Lakes and maritime memorabilia, automobilia, or looking for an authentic vintage statement piece for a cabin, lake lodge, bar, or man cave, this sign has outstanding presence.
Authentic retired road-used condition. Features incredible genuine age character, including tight spiderwebbing/craquelure across the original painted field on both sides, light surface discoloration, and natural oxidation around the mounting holes. It sits nice and straight with no major warps or folds.
Note on Patina: Due to the age and natural weathering of the finish, minor light flaking may occur along stressed areas during handling and shipping. The sign will be packed with care, but please expect authentic vintage patina. Please review all high-resolution photos closely to judge condition for yourself.
Dimensions: Approx. 24" Long x 6" High
Material: Heavy-gauge flat metal / steel
Format: Double-sided municipal street blade
Sold AS-IS with NO RETURNS.
Sign will be carefully packaged and braced flat for safe delivery.
