Wonderful vintage hand-carved wooden folk art figure depicting a weary traveler or porter carrying a substantial load of tied bundles and packs while leaning on a long walking staff.
This is an especially expressive carving with excellent detail throughout. The figure has individually carved facial features, hair and beard, detailed hands and bare feet, layered clothing, shoulder pole, multiple rounded bundles and a large rectangular pack secured across his back. The bent posture and walking staff give the figure a strong sense of movement and weight.
The carving stands on an integral wooden base and has attractive contrasting warm brown tones and visible hand-tool marks that add to its folk art character.
No signature or maker's mark was found, so the exact maker, country of origin and date are unknown.
