Constructed from strips of assorted textiles in a striking combination of vivid red, burgundy, black, charcoal, gray and cream, with occasional patterned fabric accents. The different fabrics and textures give the rug wonderful handmade character.
Both ends are finished with purple woven edging and hand-tied fringe.
The striped design and construction are strongly reminiscent of traditional Swedish and Scandinavian trasmatta rag rugs. There is no label or maker's mark, so I cannot confirm the country of origin, maker or exact age.
The rug appears to be a vintage, likely mid-to-late 20th century piece. It is made from mixed textiles, with several areas that appear to contain wool or wool-blend material.
Approximately 46" x 27", excluding fringe.
Very good vintage condition. No obvious major stains or structural damage. There is normal wear, variation and some loose fibers associated with a handmade vintage textile. Please examine all photographs carefully as they are an important part of the description.
A wonderfully colorful and highly textured vintage textile that would work beautifully as a small area rug, bedside rug, entry rug or decorative accent.
